I believe what Mr. Haymore is saying means people should take responsibility for their own actions. Whatever you do affects you in many positive and negative ways.

I think what Mr. Haymore means is that just by following the rules you yourself can be cool in school. For instance, some of your so call friends offer you to smoke well those are not your friends if they are making you do stuff that you are not supposed to do, so you follow the rules and you don’t do it that’s being cool.
