Student Success Statement

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”

Thomas Carlyle

I really this quote because it is true someone with no goals to set is just not living a fulfill life. Everyone has a goal they would like to accomplish especially young people. Old people should still even have goals that they would like to achieve to live a happy life.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a special holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May in America because that is the day they honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S military. This holiday was originally called Decoration Day and it was made after the following years of the Civil War and then became an official holiday in 1971.

Many Americans celebrate this day by going to the cemetery where the ones who were in the military or army or civil war are and honor them for fighting for their country. I might do that on Memorial Day and thank them.

Student Success Statement

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”

Dan Dierdorf

I really like this statement said by Diefdorf because it is true. If you choose the correct goals and you keep moving forward everything will go into place to make those goals come true. Then if you do the right thing you will succeed in life J

“The most important thing you’ll ever have is good values.”
Dennis Pinger

Value is something that is held to deserve, something you care about and that is important to you, but good values are good things that you are holding onto dearly. Pinger implies in this statement that our most important thing we’ll ever have with us is good values which is true because it is with us all the time. Our good value is like a conscious telling us right from wrong.

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”

Wilford Woodruff

Woodruff implies that you cannot gain anything by doing the wrong thing. Instead when you do the wrong thing then you lose respect, trust, etc. You cannot gain something by doing the wrong thing. For instance, you start stealing and you go around telling your friends that you steal thinking you’re cool but I reality they look at you with disappointment.

Forgiveness

In the video, a man named Eric Smallridge man slaughtered 2 teenage girls because he was drinking and driving. He received 22 years of prison and the mother of one of the girls, Megan, was quite satisfied. That is until Megan’s mom, Rena, learns to forgive because she did not want to have this answer for what that man did for life, so she sent him a letter of forgiveness. The man was so thankful that he had a change of heart and started apologizing for more things. In one of his court trials Rena speaks up to tell the jury to cut his sentence for 22 years to 11 years. This is a good story of someone who learns to forgive.

“When a deep injury is done for us, we never recover until we forgive.”

Alan Paton

Forgiving is resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake or to stop feeling angry towards someone or something. When something in life hurts us we learn to forgive to recover from that pain. We do this because it helps us move forward and without a grudge holding us back.
